I write of my experiences to seek greater self-awareness and to confirm my belief in the connection of happenings early in life and the mature years. I am on a course toward self-understanding by reclaiming experiences I missed because of cultural confinements and limitations of my parents. Now eighty-six years old, I recall experiences that have unexpected meaning when I make connections as I think and write about my life. My journal of thirty-five years records dreams that elicited feelings that lead to greater self-confidence and spiritual awareness.
After my husband died in 1985, I started to write about our relationship with hope of understanding it. I then realized I wanted to know myself, a woman who has personal problems yet believes in possibilities for change and opportunities for personal growth. I believe that as we grow older we can confirm the value of learning about the shadow side of our personalities and find comfort in a simple and unhurried lifestyle.
