Laurence H. Kallen received his formal education in economics (B.A., 1966) and law (J.D., 1969) from the University of Michigan and his empirical education in business bankruptcies and commercial law from private practice in Chicago since then. He is a past chairman of the Bankruptcies and Reorganization Committee of the Chicago Bar Association and for many years served as a bankruptcy trustee. He is the author of How to Get Rich Buying Bankrupt Companies (Lyle Stuart 1989) and Corporate Warfare: The Megabankruptcies of the 80s and 90s (Lyle Stuart 1991).
